Le Grand Pompée

DESCRIPTION
The name of our Saint Joseph, red and white, comes from Victor Hugo’s “Légende des siècles” : in the 9th century, the Grand Pompée, faithful companion to Charlemagne, fought at his side against the Moors, on the right bank of the Rhône. A famous line remains from this battle: “And wine, that wine beloved of the Grand Pompée”.
Soil:
Light soil of schist and gneiss on a granite bedrock. This 2 ha estate is situated in the commune of Limony.
Grape Variety:
Marsanne.
Age of the vines:
Around 10 to 30 years.
Vinification:
Bunches pressed whole, followed by fermentation in oak casks, 30% of which are new wood.
Ageing:
In oak casks on stirred fine lees for 9 months.

35 hl/ha.

Colour:
Straw yellow colour with attractive brightness and pronounced legs.
Bouquet:
Notes of white flowers, slightly honeyed, finishing with a final touch of brioche.
Palate:
Rich and warm, well balanced and rounded.

Rabbit and eel terrine orange chantilly
Sea trout escalope with chervil butter
Pan-fried veal with baby turnips
Serving Temperature:
12° to 14°.
